Welcome to our April Newsletter!
We hope you are starting to enjoy a bit more freedom after the latest lockdown and tentatively looking forward to something approaching normality.
Last month we highlighted the fact that we now have a Manifesto of Ideas covering 70 of the most transformative ideas out of the 400+ we have generated so far, and 25 Considered Proposals to underpin and explain the thinking behind these. So we think it is time to take stock and consider what the top issues are facing the UK in the long-term and where it is not evident that these issues are being addressed.
We’ll be doing some analysis of this over the next month and would welcome any inputs on what you see as the top outstanding issues for the future of our democracy. Just reply to this newsletter with any views.

Open Information
Probably42 member Geoff Osborne has written an article ‘An Introductory Guide to Sources of Government Information’ which is available at Access to Government Information and is of interest to anyone who wants to find out what the Government is doing in areas that don’t often make the media.
We also continue our series to highlight some of the things going on in Government. Here is our latest selection:
- Transforming the public health system. Note that ‘this publication sets out more details on the government’s plans for public health reform and invites you to share your insights and experience by 26 April 2021 to help us with the next stages of our work’.
- NHS mandate 2021 to 2022. Note the 5 pages of metrics in Appendix A.
- Response to the House of Lords Committee on Artificial Intelligence. A very relevant Government response on Artificial Intelligence
- Levelling Up Fund: Additional Documents. Expect this process to take some time. You may wish to look at the associated document New levelling up and community investments
Our April Discussion – Disaster Planning
Our discussion this month will be on the topic Disaster Planning. Based on our recent experience with the pandemic what sort of Disasters or major disruptions should we expect the Government to be planning for? Which do we think they are planning for and what might they have overlooked?
